So you want to know a little about me. Ok, here it is in a nutshell. I created Chappell Farms Soaps & Lotions which I have been running since 2001. Most of my sales are online, except for the "I tried my friend's and I have to have some" local word of mouth sales. In addition to making and selling my own bath and beauty products, I write a little, paint a little, and garden enthusiastically, if not always successfully :). I have 2 amazing grown children, one teenager (a delightful 15 year old daughter), a wonderful husband, a fantastic grandson, and a dog and a cat. I wear a few other hats too. I am the list owner/moderator of the Beginner Soapmaking group on Yahoo, designed to offer help to those who are new to soapmaking, and I am the webmaster for the Alabama Soap Meeting.
My interest in soap began because my daughter has very sensitive skin. I read everything that I could find about skin-care and came to realize most of the cleansing products on the market aren't even really soap. They are detergent bars. Commercial cleansing bars were stripping her skin of its natural oils. After reading, and reading, and reading some more, and spending many hours researching, I began my journey into the wonderful world of soapmaking.
It wasn't long before my interest led me to do the same reading and research on making lotions, and creams, scrubs, and body butters. I discovered that most of the creams and lotions on the market, even the expensive ones, were made from cheap, peteroleum based products that do nothing for your skin! The recipes that I have developed use skin-loving oils like emu oil, mink oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, shea butter, and cocoa butter. You can learn more about the properties of these oils here.
I love creating and experimenting but most of all, I love the way that my skin and my daughter's skin feels now that we use my bath and beauty products exclusively. No more itchy, dry feeling after a bath, and no more dry scaly patches. The difference has been tremendous. I can honestly say that my skin has never felt better now that I am using my own high-quality handmade products.
My friends and relatives think my products are great! Apparently so do a lot of other people! My original plan was simply to enjoy this as a fun, interesting, exciting hobby. However, after sharing with a few friends, who shared with other people, I had folks calling me and begging me to make them soap and lotion too. That, plus the fact that I was making a lot more products than my small family could ever use, led me to read and research more, and then finally to open my own business selling these products.
I offer my products online at www.chappellfarms.net and I retail them through a couple of local shops. Now, I find that many people who visit the Chappell Farms Soap Company website are contacting me and asking for information, instructions, and recipes that they can use to make their own handmade products. I wanted to help, so I always took the time to respond at length. Eventually, I realized that I was spending way too much time answering the same questions over and over, and not enough time doing what I love to do, which is making soap and lotion.
That's when I decided to create these e-books so I can help everyone who wants to create wonderful bath and body products, and even help those who may want to start their own business.
